When is the Best Time to Book Your Flight?

It is usually cheaper if you can book your flight at least 5-7 weeks and your hotel 2-5 weeks in advance. Travelling on Friday and Saturday is generally more expensive. Also, days around school holidays, long weekends and public holidays are not meant for savvy travellers.

Be a wise owl rather than an early bird.

Do your search off-peak times of the day such as after midnight and early in the morning. Most airline and booking systems are designed on the first-come-first-served lock concept. When you select a flight, the system places a hold on his particular allocation until you either buy it or abandon it. This is to make sure somebody else won’t take it while you are at the checkout. Given that hundreds of people like you are searching and comparing, you are more likely not to see a lot of cheaper deals during peak hours.

In general, airfares don't drop or at least not much as your travel date is drawing closer. If you have a date in mind and you are certain (not flexible) about travel dates, you would be better off to book your flights sooner than later.
