Know Your Priorities and Set the Right Expectations

We all hope to travel sometime in our lives. We have expectations of what it will be like, who it will be with and how much fun we're going to have. It is usually just not the priority, a plan sitting somewhere after we are retired (rich) and before we are dead.

Making traveling a real priority is a priority by itself. In theory, most people would probably like to make traveling a priority. In reality, everybody has excuses, roadblocks, other higher priorities etc.

Although timing is important, there’s no such thing as a right moment when it comes to traveling. Life is full of wonderful surprise, twists and turns, ups and downs and easy and hard days. Your life is what you make it. Life is full of wonderful experiences and you need to enjoy every second to live it. This is all about movement - or travel. It is hard to set travel goals when you are busy in your everyday life. When the time comes. When the kids get a bit older. When we save enough and have spare cash to spend on a holiday. Life doesn't wait for us to catch up. Days are gone one by one.

Once you set travel itself as a priority, it is important to set priorities for the travel. Such priorities are different for different people. For example, do you prefer your trip include a cruise as well? How about a scenic flight? OK, maybe an elephant ride instead? All these details can affect what type of travel you prefer.

Once you know your priorities, you can determine what is negotiable and what is a must-have for your next unforgettable holiday to happen.

At the same time, setting expectations right is very important. On one hand, you don't want to set your expectations low to dilute your excitement, right? On the other hand, how this works: you spend months drooling over the tantalizing photos of paradisiacal tropical island beaches, trawl every page of the internet to discover the best things to see when you arrive. Subconsciously, creating an ideal setup in your imaginary world. What happens when you arrive? Well, that's why being realistic is the best approach to balance between your pre-travel excitement and post-travel happiness.
